Sydney B.
UVic Student Mental Health Blogger
My name is Sydney (she/her) and I am a third year psychology student here at UVic. After completing my bachelors degree, I would like to continue my education and go to law school. I want to go into law to tackle the systemic barriers of mental health by advocating for others and giving a voice to those being silenced. I believe truly eliminating stigma would mean not only accepting individuals for speaking up or seeking help for mental health challenges but it would also mean solving issues impacting mental illness like homelessness or access to education.
When I’m not writing blogs or studying at school you might find me running on trails around campus or enjoying a coffee at Bibliocafe. I also enjoy spending time with friends and going on adventures to the beach or to watch the sunset.
I am extremely excited to share my experiences at UVic and hope to help fellow students by providing insightful tips, meaningful stories and continuing a positive conversation about mental health.

Learning Online Again
I found myself less motivated for the beginning of this semester as it starts online. Online learning can come with many comforts such as staying in your pajamas, the ability to lay in bed during lectures, and being in the comfort of your own home, but I’ve found that...
Navigating Friendships in University
University is a time of new beginnings, new experiences, new opportunities, and new people. Along with these new beginnings, it can also feel like we are relearning how to do many things. I found making new friendships to be one of those things. Friendships in...
