The Learning Assistance Program Orientation

The LAP is a Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) program that supports educational success by connecting students with specialized tutors and learning strategists. The LAP provides one-to-one, specialized, and personalized academic support.

Orientation is the second part of the LAP Process! The purpose of this orientation is to welcome you to our program and give you an opportunity to ask questions. There is no cost associated with the orientation meeting and it usually takes about 30-45 minutes. 

For students who haven’t used LAP before, you must complete a free orientation.

To use the Learning Assistance Program (LAP), start by requesting a course-specific tutor or learning strategist through the LAP online request form. If you are a student who hasn’t used LAP before, you will complete a free orientation. Next, you will attend a free tutor/learning strategist introduction meeting to share your goals and strengths and determine when and where the sessions will occur. Weekly sessions then start, which are paid sessions at $50 per hour. The LAP will issue one consolidated invoice via email at the end of the semester. Payment options are available online, in person, or by mail.

How Does Orientation Work?

Orientation is delivered by our Operations Coordinator in a group-based setting, remotely via Zoom. The group-based model means that you will be attending an online orientation meeting with other new LAP students.

You are welcome to keep your camera off throughout the session. You can also enter questions you may have into the chat if you don’t feel comfortable speaking.

When Are Group-Based Orientation Sessions?

For the Fall 2024 Semester, Group-Based Orientation sessions occur weekly: Tuesday at 10:00AM and Friday at 2:00PM. It is up to you to decide which session best suits your schedule. Please see the full schedule below.

New LAP students must complete an orientation session. After you have attended a session, please complete the Post-Orientation survey to complete the LAP Orientation process.

We cannot connect you with a tutor or learning strategist until your orientation is complete and we have received your post-orientation survey submission.

What If I Cannot Attend a Group-Based Orientation?
