With the University of Victoria switching from in-person to online courses, many students have questions about what the Learning Assistance Program is doing in the midst of all the recent changes. We complied a list of questions and answers that we hope you will find helpful.
Will my tutoring / learning strategy sessions continue now that the university is switched to online classes?
Yes! The LAP is dedicated to providing continued support for students in their classes for the rest of the semester. We hope students will continue sessions with their tutors and strategists as much as possible in order to reach their academic goals.
Where will tutoring take place?
All tutoring and strategist sessions will now take place via distance. You and your tutor can decide what method of distance tutoring works best for you.
If my tutor and I still both want to meet on in-person on campus for sessions, can we?
In accordance with Health Canada’s advice to reduce contact with other individuals, all sessions will now take place remotely (via distance).
What are my options for distance tutoring?
There are many tools out there for distance tutoring! Some commonly used ones are Skype, Zoom, FaceTime, and good old-fashioned phone. Keep an eye out for our upcoming blog post on how to select and set yourself up with various platforms.
Will Study Solutions continue now that UVic has moved online?
Study Solutions will continue via distance appointments. Students will be able to book online up to a week in advance. Visit the Study Solutions page for more information.
What if I cannot / do not want to continue tutoring?
No problem! As always, you can cancel tutoring at anytime. Just be sure to let us know at learning@uvic.ca, or let your tutor know directly and they will update us. Please note that our 24-hour cancellation policy and no-show policy are still in effect.
How will I pay my invoice?
Invoices can be paid online through a secure link that we will email to each student. Until further notice, we will be not be accepting in-person payment by cash or cheque for LAP or note-taking services. If you need a different method of payment, feel free to contact us after we have sent out the invoices.
I receive CSG funding. How can I get my Service Provider Receipt to send back to the ministry?
After invoices are sent out and we have confirmed payment, we will send you a scanned, signed copy of your Service Provider Receipt. Until further notice, these forms will not be available to pick-up in-person at the CAL.
If you have any other questions, please contact learning@uvic.ca, or call us at (250) 472-5494. The LAP will strive to aid students through this transition to help them achieve their academic goals, but we also understand that health comes first. Remember always to take care of yourself.
Now I am enrolled in ES200-A01. I found it overwhelming because there are many comments and reading materials. This is my first term at UVic, and I was a university student in Korea. So, all of the things at UVic are unfamiliar to me yet. If possible, I hope to ask you for help so that I can succeed in my university life.
