Jocelyn C.

Past UVic Student Mental Health Blogger

Hello! My name is Jocelyn and I am finishing up my combined degree in Biology and Psychology at UVic.

I grew up in Victoria and started out studying Biochemistry before deciding to incorporate my intense interest in human behaviour into my educational journey. In my spare time, I love to read, watch British comedic panel shows, obsessively complete jigsaw puzzles, hang out with my cat, and spend time in good conversation with my friends. I am passionate about delving into all aspects of the human experience, and exploring ways to connect with others, strive towards a greater purpose, and live a rich and meaningful life. As I see it, mental health is an integral component of this, and learning to address that and treat ourselves and others with care and compassion is vitally important.

My goal for the future is to be involved in the realm of psychological research, and I hope to be part of an environment that seeks to view individuals struggling with mental health issues from a holistic perspective that values their varied experiences and invests in their well-being. I am so grateful for the opportunity that being a Mental Health Blogger grants me to learn about important psychological and emotional issues and share that knowledge with others.

Mental Illness and the Self

Hi readers, When we have a mental illness, how does that affect our sense of self? Have you ever wondered whether a mental illness is something external to who you are – to be treated and eradicated so that you can return to your normal self – or something that is...
