Safety First for Students with CSEC

Campus Security buildingUpon arriving at UVic, I initially wondered: what exactly is Campus Security (CSEC), and what can they do for me?

As a senior student, I am now more informed about the services they offer, and want to highlight my favourite ones for you:

SafeWalk

If you ever find yourself walking somewhere on campus and are worried about your safety, whether it be late at night or in the middle of the day, Campus Security is available 24/7 and will happily escort you on your journey, wherever your on-campus destination may be.

To access this service, students can call 250-721-7599.

Campus Alone

Exam season can get stressful, and students may find themselves studying late into the night on campus: something that can feel scary if you are alone.

For this reason, CSEC has implemented a Campus Alone program. To engage with this service, individuals can call CSEC at 250-721-7599 and provide their name, location, contact information, and the time they expect to leave the campus.

When the reported departure time arrives, if CSEC does not receive a call, they will reach out and check on the student who provided the information. Like the SafeWalk program, this service is available 24/7.

These two services provided by CSEC always ease my anxieties when I am feeling nervous on campus for any reason. If you find yourself in this situation, don’t hesitate to contact them.
