A Blue Fox Brunch Break

The beloved reading break has come to an end. February is usually one of the busiest months for students since professors love to put midterms right before and right after the break.

I planned to spend the majority of my break studying to catch up on assignments and to prepare for upcoming deadlines but I didn’t get much done in the beginning. My inner voice constantly pestered me to be productive, which only made me avoid studying.

My friend invited me out to brunch one day and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect as I was starting to become frustrated by my lack of self-discipline. Thus, on Thursday we went to Blue Fox Cafe and to my disbelief, there was no line!

It was my first time seeing empty tables when getting brunch!

It was my friend’s first time at the restaurant and luckily, we didn’t wait long. We were seated shortly and after contemplating over the abundant choices, we both ordered the signature eggs benedicts.

The “Eggs Blackstone” and “Eggs Pacifico” Bennies were delicious and the eggs were perfectly runny!

While we waited for our food, we caught each other up on our lives and didn’t talk about school at all! It felt great to disconnect from academics for a couple hours.

At the end of the day, going out for brunch was kind of like a wake-up call. I realized that if I force myself to study all the time, I will eventually break from my own pressure. Sometimes, the best solution for being productive is to take your mind off of what you need to do.

Relaxing and hanging out with friends has never been the priority for me because I’m always frantically worrying about school. Needless to say, I had forgotten the joy of not being reminded of my academic responsibilities.

The weather was surprisingly nice after a week of snow storms!

Although school sometimes seems more important than making time for friends, I hope to balance the two better from now on.

If you reach the point where you feel like school is taking over your life and everything else is being neglected, take a break to hop down to your favourite cafe and treat yourself!
