Dear High School Students
I’ve been at UVic for almost 2 months now, and although I feel pretty settled into the university life, I was still a high school student just 4 months ago.
I vividly remember having all my classes in one building, putting my stuff in a locker (instead of having to carry it all around in a backpack) and generally just wondering what on earth I was going to do after I graduate high school.
So in honour of all of you current high school students (and Grade 12s in particular), I want to do a little series of posts answering any questions you might have about applying to UVic.
I remember this time last year, and realizing that after talking about universities for years before, I had to actually start the process of applying. It was exciting, scary, and sometimes just downright confusing. I had a lot of questions, and sometimes it was hard to know where to find answers to those questions.
I want to give you soon-to-be university students the opportunity to ask me your questions.
What do you want to know? Do you have questions about applying to UVic? University in general? Residence? Classes? Canada? Even questions about what you can do now to start preparing for university?
Leave your questions in the comment section below this post, and I will answer them as soon and as best as I can. And if I can’t answer them myself, I’ll try to point you towards other resources that can help.
I know finishing high school can be hard with so much to think about and so many decisions to make, and I’m here to try and make that a little bit easier for you. So please, ask away 🙂
Will UVic look at any grade 11 courses?
In my experience UVic will look at your overall GPA and transcript. Partially for any transfer credits. For more information here is a link to the contact info for Undergrad Admissions inquiries. 🙂

Thanks Rebecca for answering 🙂 Here is another link you can look at, it lets you fill in your province/country, curriculum and program to tell you what UVic will at. I would also highly recommend calling UVic or talking to a recruiter, they’ll be able to give you a definite answer 🙂

What is each residence like? What residence has the best social life, best atmosphere, etc.
Hi Victoria! From what I’ve heard from people in residence last year, each one changes from year to year and the atmosphere depends on who ends up in each building. Living Learning Communities tend to have more of a community feel, just because the CL’s organize themed events for residents. Also, the buildings with bigger rooms (usually the older ones), have more of a social atmosphere, because more people can get together. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions
