Programpalooza and declaring your major

UVic Humanities BrochuresToday I discovered one of the most important events that has yet to take place during my time at UVic.

**PROGRAMPALOOZA**

It may sound like a silly name, but I’ve found that the few hours this event was on gave me more insight into my future than any other.

Programpalooza is basically a day where faculty members and students from the different programs and faculties all get together to show you what they’re all about. They tell you what courses you need to take to be eligible for a certain major, what jobs you can get from that degree, and answer any questions that you may have.

Throughout the year you can visit Academic Advisers who will help you understand where you’re going with your degree, but it’s so convenient to be able to ask the students who actually went through the programs you have questions about.

There are also draws that you can enter to win $500 worth of food on your meal card, which for most students would be VERY helpful.

Across the hall from where Programpalooza is held they have Academic Advisers on hand for any technical questions concerning declaring or switching majors. Computers are also set up in case you become inspired and want to declare your major that very minute!

All in all, this event was so helpful, and I would recommend going to everybody, no matter their program, or year of study (however it may be more helpful for those in first and second year who have yet to declare their major).
