Poor life choices: this is the student reality

struggle is realUniversity is a demanding time in life that challenges our social, mental, and physical well-being.

Often, the pressure from so much stress can get the best of students, which can create entertainment. Here is a list of “poor life decisions” from students trying to deal with their stresses.

The struggle for fitness..

  • “I was taking pre-workout whilst trying to rid myself of the “Freshman 15.. and proceeded to black-out on the treadmill.”

The battle with food..

  • “I tried to use my balcony as a fridge and ended up freezing all of my produce.”
  • “I accidentally used cayenne pepper on my popcorn and almost sneezed to death.”
  • “I cooked eggs that turned out to be scrambled which I hate, and mixed it with red pepper which I forgot makes me sick when mixed. On top of it, I mixed in expensive meat. I didn’t want to eat it but I’m a poor student.. It’s either eat the nasty scrambled eggs or starve!”
  • “I am known as ‘that guy’ at the campus restaurant because I always order ‘Charles sized’ breakfast which.. is the size of 3 normal breakfasts… They might not be very receptive of me considering I always order breakfast for dinner and, it consists of half a dozen eggs and what I’m certain is a whole loaf of rye bread.. I insist they name a special new breakfast after me but to no avail. Their excuse, “That’s like a whole table’s order”. My crusade for breakfast glory will continue.. I will have my name on that menu!”

The hilarious “You had to be there”..

  • “In short, we got a tin can lid stuck deep inside the toilet, had to take the toilet up, got the lid out, broke the toilet reinstalling it, and spent more money fixing it than what it costs to buy a new one.”
  • “I tried to quietly slip out of lecture to use the bathroom by hopping over the back of my seat to not disturb the row.. And basically threw 3 peoples things off their desks and tripped over the chair making the loudest commotion.. My hip is bruised.”

And finally, the all-too-familiar battle with deadlines..

  • “I had a term paper due the next day and I panicked because I ran out of time to work on it. After I pulled an all-nighter, I got ready for class to find out that it was due that day… of the following week.”
  • “The problem with short papers is that you tend to underestimate them and procrastinate. Worth 10% and 1000 words? Easy! It’ll be done in a jiffy. I pulled my first all-nighter the night before it was due. After sunrise, I finally finished my essay and had it ready to hand it in. You can imagine my horror when during my 2-hour morning class, I realized that my essay was still at home. Straight after class, I bussed home, ran up the hill, grabbed the paper, ran down the hill, bussed back to campus, handed in my essay, bussed home, walked back up the hill, and collapsed on the living room floor. Moral of the story: get that ‘easy’ assignment done sooner rather than later.”

This is student life. The struggle is real.

I can confirm most of these. Then there’s grad school, where things get really weird.

    An all-nighter for 1000 words? Try 2500.

Brent, I think it’s safe to say that pulling any kind of “all-nighter” due to homework could be considered as time poorly spent 😉
