The Joy in Each Day

Although this summer looks a little different for everyone, there are still ways for us to enjoy what’s left of it before we dive into another school year.

What’s making you happy these days? I think it’s really important to still be able to find little bouts of joy in each day – whether they be big or small, long lasting or short lasting, it’s a good habit to appreciate the good in each day.

I’ve compiled a list of some things that have made me smile the past couple of months. Some of these were a surprise to me and others were only amplified during this time.

1. Baking

As the summer went on, I found myself experimenting with new food to bake! It’s really easy to get inspiration these days as many people are sharing their tips and tricks as well as modifications to recipes.

Made my own Challah Bread! The braiding on this wasn’t hard and turned out super satisfying!

2. Committing to a 30-day yoga journey

I have been wanting to do this for a while now but never “found the time”. I realized later that it was as easy as setting aside a 30 minute window at the beginning of the day or later in the evening.

3. A fluffy cloud in the sky

When the clouds look extra fluffy, I can’t help but look up in awe. There’s something about those perfectly shaped cumulus clouds against a bright blue sky that makes me smile.

4. Friends’ faces from a number of video calls

This has been extremely necessary and I was so happy to see friends whom I hadn’t seen in a long time due to distance.

5. The way the wind drifts between trees and plants

6. Gathering inspiration for interior design

I’ve always been interested in interior design – especially when it comes to home furnishings and decor! Looking up pictures on Pinterest and collecting them was a fun pastime to help understand my preferences.

7. Crashing waves

8. Discovering new music

I’ve been really enjoying seeing what the Youtube or Spotify algorithm will recommend but also songs my friends recommend during this time.

9. Starting in a brand new journal

Nothing like opening a fresh journal and writing the first words on the second page!

10. Being creative with at-home photo shoots

There have been lots of ideas and videos on how to change things up!

Not all of these came to me instantly so definitely take some time out of the day to think about what’s made you happy recently! You might be surprised!

If you’re struggling, maybe try to use the rest of the month to do more things or shift your mindset so that you’ll have more joy in your life.
