5 Reasons to be an Orientation Leader

This year will be my third time around as an Orientation Leader and I cannot wait. My first experience volunteering for Orientation in 2016 was not only so much fun but helped me to be a better Vike. Here are some reasons you should consider applying to be an Orientation Leader as well! 😀

1. Make New Friends

If you have volunteered before you know how easy it is to make friends as a volunteer. Once you are in you are part of a group of enthusiastic people with a passion for leadership, helping others, and having fun.

2. Get Volunteer/Leadership Experience

This position is for anyone. If you are a bit shy you will have the opportunity to work on your public speaking and if you just love to talk you will learn to work in a team and share your enthusiasm with new students.

Perhaps you just love UVic and want to be more involved. As a Leader you will receive training from other passionate UVic students and staff to improve your personal skills and knowledge. Not to mention it looks great on a resume and counts for your Co-Curricular record.

3. Get Involved on Campus

Being an Orientation Leader is a great stepping stone into getting more involved on campus. From applying to be a Leader I learned about becoming a Tour Leader as well as a member of the Orientation and Student Recruitment Leadership team.

4. Be an Expert on All Things UVic

You will be trained and educated on many of the resources, buildings, and events here on campus. You will be the go-to friend for all the UVic trivia and will save first year students a lot of stress before their first day.

5. The SWAG

A spirit buff, a t-shirt, and a pin or two! You will be repping UVic to the max and the more involved on campus you get the more SWAG becomes available.

So get out there and represent UVic as an Orientation Leader. Who knows who you will inspire on their first day on campus!

Apply here before February 27
