First Co-op Term Complete, Now What?

So, technically, I just completed the first half of my first co-op position (2 work terms), but I feel this is a good place to step back and look at how far I have come in just a few months, and talk about where I hope to go from here.

In my first position as a Student Recruiter, I have had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of prospective students and their families in order to make their university search as smooth as possible. On day one, I didn’t even know where to begin on answering a simple question in an email.

It’s a nerve-wracking thing thinking that you could make all the difference between a rocky and a smooth application process for someone. I am grateful though because all along the way I had resources and coworkers to help me improve and be able to make a difference in students’ journeys, however small.

Now that I am halfway though, I feel so much more confident in myself as a resource as well as in my ability to find the answer to any question, even if I do not know the answer myself. I still have a long way to go before I am anywhere near a master of all knowledge about UVic, but I feel I have grown in confidence and problem solving.

I cannot wait to see where I am at the end of my second work term. I hope to improve my writing and speaking abilities with prospective students and families so that I may be able to convey the information they seek, as well as how UVic has made such an incredible impact on my life so far.

Here’s to the start of Term 2! Let’s see where it takes me.
