We acknowledge with respect that our work takes place on the lands and waters of the Lekwungen peoples, and that our presence here impacts the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. We seek to use our research skills to address historical and ongoing environmental injustices and to empower communities in Canada and internationally through interventions at all stages of the drinking water supply chain. We apply a Green Engineering and Chemistry lens as one of many perspectives on these challenges and opportunities.
Last week, Maria, Molk and Shashini participated in the Water and Environment Student Talks (WEST) conference at UBC. We congratulate everyone for their participation and Maria and Shashini for their involvement in organizing the event. A special congratulations to Shashini for receiving the Runner-Up Award for Best Poster Presentation 👏 We also acknowledge Dr. Buckley and our past postdoc Dr. Luiz for their important role as judges in the event. We are proud of everyone’s contributions!
Congratulations to Dr. Heather Buckley on receiving the Excellence in Graduate Student Supervision and Mentorship award at UVic’s 2025 REACH Awards! This well-deserved recognition celebrates her thoughtful mentorship and her commitment to supporting students in their development as researchers, leaders and inclusive members of the academic community. We are grateful for her guidance and proud to celebrate this achievement!
Faiza’s co-op term with our group is coming to an end! She has gained her first research experience working on catalyst optimization for the degradation of emerging contaminants in water. We thank her for her great work and wish her all the best in her next steps! 👏✨
Last week, our visiting researcher Frank gave his final presentation! He’s been working on using modified LIG electrodes to detect emerging contaminants in water systems. We’re grateful for his contributions and wish him a safe trip back to Brazil and good luck with his PhD defense (though we know he’ll crush it)! 🎓💪
