Today was the final presentation for our Mitacs intern, May! She worked in our Arsenic Project. It’s been a pleasure having her in our lab, and we wish her a safe return to Ibagué, Colombia.

We acknowledge with respect that our work takes place on the lands and waters of the Lekwungen peoples, and that our presence here impacts the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. We seek to use our research skills to address historical and ongoing environmental injustices and to empower communities in Canada and internationally through interventions at all stages of the drinking water supply chain. We apply a Green Engineering and Chemistry lens as one of many perspectives on these challenges and opportunities.
Andrew successfully defended his MASc thesis during the Spring 2022 semester! You will be missed!
Our group is expanding once again! In January 2022, Georgia joined us as an MSc student, while Negar joined our team as a Ph.D. student!
Our group is expanding once again! Dr. Fatima joined us in March 2021 as a postdoctoral fellow. In September 2021, Kirsten Aasen joined us as an MASc student, while Nicole Gamm joined our team as a co-op student and Emma joined us as a Chem 498 thesis student!
Amidst the chaos of lab shutdowns, transitions to an online world, border closures, gradual lab reopenings, and constantly changing research conditions, our team has achieved many milestones! I am humbled by the strength, creativity, and resilience of the people I work with.
Anna Curtin and Caitlin Vail both successfully defended their MASc theses in August 2020. Congratulations to the first graduates of the Green Safe Water Lab!
Dr. Jolie Lam joined us in July 2020 as a postdoctoral fellow, and in September 2020 Grace Tieman and Chris Tremblay joined us as MSc students, while Anna Masarsky joined our team as a co-op student, and Elliot Howell joined us as a Chem 498 thesis student. A belated welcome to all of you!
Our group is expanding once again! We are looking forward to having a bustling group with: Andrew, our new MASc student; Shaheen, Sydney and Matthew, our new co-op students; and Evelyn, our new undergraduate volunteer!
