Introduction to Photoshop

Are you a UVic student or staff member and are interested in learning about Photoshop? If this sounds like you then this hands-on group workshop will be a great introduction to Photoshop. Come join us in the Digital Scholarship Commons where you can learn the basics and get creating. Learn about tools such as Quick Selection, Adjustment Layers, Cropping, and the magic that is Layers and how to use them to make your photos pop.

By the end of this workshop, you will have the tools and knowledge to apply various adjustments that will vastly alter your photos, or subtly change them to give the desired effect. You’ll learn how to save your project to allow for further changes, and the various file types to save them as for the best prints.

Before attending the workshop, please make sure you have a laptop with Photoshop available to you, watch the instructional videos and take the pre-workshop quiz so you can be prepared for the hands-on exercises available during the workshop (This will take about 25 minutes). If you don’t have a laptop or a copy of Photoshop available to you, there are MacBook Pros with Photoshop available to borrow at the Music and Media desk on the first floor of the McPherson Library.

In order to devote almost all of our face-to-face workshop time to hands-on exercises, please watch the videos below and then complete the quiz at the end. The quiz is to help you know if you’re prepared to attend the workshop. If you don’t do well on the quiz, you might watch to watch the videos again, or Google some of the ideas and/or skills that you’re not as familiar with:
