Academic Poster Design with PowerPoint

Are you a UVic student, staff, or faculty member and are interested in learning about designing academic posters? Come join us in the Digital Scholarship Commons where you can learn the basics and get creating. 

Participants will be able to know and do the following by the end of this workshop:

• Be aware of software tools for creating posters beyond PowerPoint and their pros & cons 
• Know the essential elements of a class or conference poster
• Identify a poster layout and concept that is appropriate for a class or conference:
• Be able to find an appropriate poster template
• Be able to format text in a poster template so it is appropriately sized and formatted
• Be able to import photos and/or charts into PowerPoint
• Be aware of the importance of photo resolution when printing large posters
• Be able to adjust contrast, saturation and crop photos
• Be able to change the poster size in PowerPoint
• Be able to select an appropriate print service and paper type for a poster
