Design for Laser cutting

Are you a UVic student or Staff member and want to learn more about designing objects digitally and cutting it with our laser cutter? If so, then this hands-on workshop will give you an introduction to design using Inkscape and how to choose the best settings for a laser cutting project. Once you’ve completed this session you’ll be adding shapes and text to the Inkscape workspace, resize and rotate objects, make holes, combine objects together into one object, and convert image files to vectors for engraving.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to create a box, make a personalized key chain, or make a basic model of your choice, and export that model into the SVG format for laser cutting. And then, you’ll be ready to cut a model you’ve created, or that you have downloaded from the web.
