The Veterans Independence Program for Survivors provides funding to assist with independent living for the surviving spouses of veterans who have passed away. To qualify, your spouse must have been eligible for or have been receiving a Disability Pension or the War Veterans Allowance, and you must have been their primary caretaker for at least one year, without receiving compensation. You must also be low-income or have a disability, and have a health-related need for these services. You may apply for this benefit online, in-person, or by mail.
