With all of the challenges of getting back to familiar routines in September, you may find some balance by taking a social media break. Social media can help us stay connected with friends and family. However, people tend to share only the highlights on social media, and comparing ourselves to these idealized images can stir up negative emotions like anxiety, fear of missing out, and feelings of inadequacy.
A social media detox can be a helpful way to put things back in perspective. Here are some tips to help you manage your social media use:
- Give yourself time limits on social media or set lockout timers on apps to prevent mindless scrolling
- Remove certain apps from your phone; check only from your computer
- Unfollow accounts that consistently make you feel down
