February 6-12, 2023 – the perfect opportunity to start incorporating active transportation into your commute, win prizes and connect with other cyclists on campus. Go By Bike Week is a free, tri-annual event run by Capital Bike to encourage active transportation in the Capital Region. Stations are set up around town throughout the week with free snacks, prizes, and swag from lots of bike shops and retailers. Cyclists register individually or as part of a team and enter to win prizes by logging their rides.
Campus Security and the Office of Campus Planning & Sustainability initiated an Employee E-Bike Loan Pilot Program last summer to reduce the financial barrier to e-bike ownership for eligible staff. E-bikes are a relatively new technology that helps make cycling more accessible to a greater number of people by incorporating an electric motor into the bike so it requires less energy from the cyclist compared to a traditional bike while offering more range, speed, and ease on inclines. This pilot program offered interest-free loans to eligible staff of up to $3,000 (payable by a 2-year payroll deduction) towards the purchase of an e-bike.
While the ultimate success of this pilot is still being determined, staff are currently exploring opportunities to expand the program in the future. Program intake was quick, but those interested in participating can still sign up for the waitlist and for future communications. If an opening becomes available, you will be contacted directly via email.
