Summer solstice is upon us – and that means berry picking is right around the corner!

Berry picking is a delicious and rewarding way to spend a summer afternoon, and a great way to support Vancouver Island’s local farms.
Island Farm Fresh is a local guide to farmers on Vancouver Island and offers a list u-pick farms by region here.

There is also a great list of Victoria area u-pick and a few local farms in Saanich offering u-pick here.

Classic U-Pick Tips
  1. Call ahead – to ensure they are open and u-pick is available
  2. Go early in the day – it is cooler in the morning and gets hot in the afternoon
  3. BYOB – bring your own bags (tupperware for raspberries and strawberries, zip-lock for blueberries)
  4. Bring Cash – most farms have debit machines, but some smaller venues might just have an honour system cash box
  5. Dress light & bring water – a little refreshment goes a long way on a hot day
