February is Psychology month! Psychology Month is celebrated every February to highlight the contributions of Canadian psychology and to teach Canadians how psychology works to help them live healthy and happy lives, help their communities flourish, help their employers create effective workplaces, and help their governments develop good policies.

There are a number of things you can do to participate. You can follow the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) on social media (@CPA_SCP on twitter or like them on Facebook) and share their psychology facts (did you know that 15% of Canadians will report at least a mild case of seasonal effective disorder?). You can also use #PsychologyMonth to talk about your psychology related work or how psychology has worked for you.

You can also host or attend an event. The CPA suggests asking your local library to feature books on psychology throughout the month or organizing a public lecture/workshop.

Lastly, you can spread the word. You can read the fact sheets that the CPA provides and share the information with your family and friends. The CPA also suggests writing an op ed in your local newspaper about the value of psychology (If Postmedia shut down your local paper then I’m sure a blog will suffice).
