Early life

Leonard Frank Houghton was born in London, England on May 11 1868. He was taught and educated at multiple schools throughout his youth. He first attended London School in London, England. Then he went to Neuenheim College, Heidelberg, Germany, and later to King’s College, London, England.

Overview

In October 1887 he was a medical student at St. Mary’s hospital of Paddington, London England. He was then able to be qualified in January 1893. From here he practiced as a doctor at Loce, Cornwall England from September 1894 to December 1900. During this time, he was known as a lieutenant. Then from February 1901 to April 1909 he practised at Weston Super Mare, England.

88th Regiment and Move To Canada

He came to British Columbia in April 1909, and he became the local physician and a resident of Salt Spring Island for two years. Afterwards, he moved to Victoria in 1911. He joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1911 and in 1914, he acheived the rank of captain.[1]

On December 20, 1915, he joined the 88th Battalion, having listed his profession as a medical practitioner, he became the medical officer for the overseas battalion.[2] Also at the time he was married to Jane Houghton.[3]
