Johnny I hardly knew yeast
Any baker will tell you yeast was in short supply in the early days of the pandemic. Many of us confined to our homes turned to baking for comfort, which increased demand for yeast. But many don’t know that yeast is critical for more than perfectly rising dough (and beer and winemaking). In the video below, a graduate student in UVic’s Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology shows how he uses yeast genetics to help us understand basic cellular processes in humans.
