The University of Victoria has received $83.6 million from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund to lead Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET), a national research initiative aimed at helping Canada achieve its net-zero emissions goal by 2050. The initiative involves over 40 partners from different sectors and will focus on developing renewable energy systems in Indigenous and remote communities that rely on diesel, as well as grid-connected communities outside major cities. ACET will use insights from community transitions and support national and global decarbonization efforts, with an interdisciplinary team of experts from various fields. The ultimate goal is to remove barriers to a collective net-zero future by enabling global citizens to envision pathways and realize their communities’ unique aspirations.
