In December 2011, nursing faculty from UVic and Camosun College gathered to discuss Internationalization and WorldMindedness, notions reflected in the university’s strategic plan. This workshop was organized by our School’s Internationalization Committee, Robin Scobie, Anastasia Mallidou, Carolyn Hammond and Olga Petrovskaya. Funding for the workshop was provided by the Learning Without Borders Grant, jointly created by the UVic Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Office of International Affairs (OIA), and the Learning and Teaching Centre. This grant, awarded to the Committee in the Fall 2011, recognizes the School of Nursing’s efforts to integrate the notions of internationalization, world-mindedness, global citizenship, and social justice into all nursing curricula and to “raise the gaze” of faculty through workshops conducted during the last academic year. The major purpose of this grant is to support ongoing faculty discussions about the internationalization of education and an exchange of teaching strategies through workshops at the school as well as a research study
related to the impact of these activities. We would like to thank all faculty for attending the workshop and participating in the study!

Dr. Jim Anglin, Director of the OIA, skillfully facilitated the December workshop with humour, music and critical insights. Our guest speaker, Dr. Budd Hall, Professor of Community Development at the School of Public Administration, inspired participants with his presentation that wove together a scholarly analysis
of equality and internationalization and his own poetry. Other highlights of the day included “appreciative inquiry” to reflect on meaningful international and intercultural encounters; an exercise to define “internationalization” (and recognition of limits of a single definition); and the Show and Tell highlighting
faculty’s international experiences, research and learning activities designed for students.
