Robyn Hederman is an Associate Court Attorney in New York State and a fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics. Robyn is co-chairing the Animal Law Committee of the NYC Bar Association and has received a Masters of Arts in History, and is presently researching women in the nineteenth-century animal advocacy movement.

Important Note: To make the most of this session, attendees are kindly asked to read the paper titled Robyn Hederman Gender and antivivisection “Women, Madness, Physicians, and the Anti-Vivisection Controversy in America” beforehand.

Leslie Irvine, PhD is professor of Sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is the author of My Dog Always Eats First: Homeless People and Their Animals, a study of the experiences of homeless animal guardians in five U.S. cities. Dr. Irvine’s research on animal sheltering, animal abuse, animals in popular culture, animal selfhood, women in veterinary medicine, and other topics appears in journals and edited volumes. She serves as the director of the Animals and Society Certificate Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.
