JOIN OUR TEAM
Are you interested in growing connections to the Xwulqw’selu Sta’lo (Koksilah River) and the waters that feed it? Work with a graduate student studying the connection between groundwater and the river through measurements of temperature, specific conductivity and streamflow. If you are interested in building the skills, we will also teach you how to analyze the data and learn to interpret the ‘numbers’ to understand what they mean for river health.
PART-TIME POSITION DETAILS
- Usually work two days per week from early May to end of September 2024.
- Work with graduate researcher for 8-12 hours per day in all weather conditions.
- Work in water with low flows. Water depth is usually very shallow, but one site will require swimming or deep wading to access.
- Drive to sites accessible by paved road and logging roads using truck provided by University of Victoria.
- Hike to a few sites in remote locations with no cell service and steep hiking.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license and comfort driving gravel roads
- Comfortable working in remote and adverse conditions
DESIRED SKILLS
- Basic first aid (can be acquired after hiring)
- Interest in watershed stewardship
- Interest in engaging with community volunteers
COMPENSATION
The part-time Research Assistant position at University of Victoria pays an hourly wage of $25 – $30 depending on experience.
