The HR Recruitment Team was fortunate to be included in a number of community outreach programs where we met amazing, and diverse people. Most recently we participated in an outreach program with the Canadian Forces called ExecuTrek.
ExecuTrek
The ExecuTrek Program gives employers, supervisors and human resources professionals a first-hand view of the quality of military training and the benefits that employers can gain from that training by hiring reservists. Our UVic HR team was invited to the Canadian Forces Base in Esquimalt and were given a tour by reservists of the training facilities used by both the army and the navy. We were fortunate enough to participate in the simulation labs at the Naval Officer Training Centre Venture and travel around the Victoria Harbour on one of the training vessels. We ended our full day at the Bay Street Armoury. At Venture we observed new recruits in the simulation lab and watched how they take instruction and share information. The communication was constant and clear and there was a flexibility and order to manage the changing situation. The tools of their trade demonstrated an awareness of health and safety.
What impressed us most was how well the reservists worked together in teams and the discipline they used to complete the tasks. The training demonstrated the order and discipline they have to the assigned task and how they continuously train and work to improve outcomes.
