Melanie Griffith Brice

Dr. Melanie Griffith Brice is a Michif scholar and citizen of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan. Born in Lac des Prairies (Meadow Lake, SK) and raised on the shores of l’brroshå Sâkahikan (Jackfish Lake, SK) she is a mother and grandmother. A proud SUNTEP alumna, she worked as an elementary classroom teacher and a teacher-librarian in Saskatoon. She earned a Master’s degree in Education at the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on Métis Teacher Identity, and later a PhD in Education at the University of Alberta focusing on Indigenous children’s literacy. Dr. Griffith Brice is currently the Gabriel Dumont Research Chair in Michif/Métis Education and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. She teaches in the areas of Indigenous education, and Language & Literacy learning and teaching. Her research areas include Michif/Métis ways of knowing and learning, Michif language revitalization, learning and teaching, and Language & Literacy learning and teaching.
