Carlton Bobbish

Wachiya, greetings, my name is Carlton Bobbish, I am a First Nations Cree person from a small community called Nemaska, in the territory of Eeyou Istchee in northern James Bay region, Quebec province.

I am currently studying at Bishop’s university, majoring in TESL program. I have completed my second practicum last year in Sherbrooke. I have been a substitute teacher at any grade level for my local community sometime in the past few years, I enjoy being a substitute teacher at my local school and interacting with the youth.

I look forward to completing my program and be certified to teach for my hometown or be in other Cree communities to teach. I wish to build strong relationships with students and families in these communities and telling them that going to school down south is not as intimidating as it seems.

When I am not attending my studies or supply teaching, I love to compete and participate in Cree basketball tournaments and play basketball in general. I was also an assist coach in 2021 – 2022 season for women’s college basketball team, the Champlain Cougars in Lennoxville, Quebec, which the college shares the campus with Bishop’s university.
