The Usher Work Experience

As a first time usher for the weekend piano recital on February 5, I was informed of this wonderful opportunity by my wonderful classmate and assistant, Jay.

Before the recital began at exactly 1:15 pm, we took a picture before our shift. As dutiful music students, we begin the set up process at 12:45 pm.

With the absence of the lead usher and concert manager, we got to work right away.

The role of an usher is keeping the audience informed of what’s going on inside the recital hall and ensuring that programs are kept organized along with cleaning supplies.

I was kept busy by multitasking through the duties of cleaning tables and chairs while guiding more than 30 seniors to their seats. This took more than the anticipated time because the seats are arranged in a large circle to seat more than 200 guests!

Once the recital started, people made their way into the hall. The dimly lit lights and serene atmosphere was reflected by the beautiful live piano performance of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Chopin.

I was motivated by the message that the lead usher was able to send the stage manager for our assistance. It was fantastic to witness and document how two first-time employees worked together to deliver the best experience for our guests. Thus, the piano concert was very enjoyable.
