Lisa Goddard and Sarah Huber: Data Services for UVic Researchers
June 23, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Data Services for UVic Researchers (note different time/location)
Research Data are increasingly recognized as critical research outputs which, brought together across projects and disciplines, can help us to solve some of the most pressing global problems. In order to realize this lofty goal, researchers require access to data infrastructure, services, and expertise at their own institutions. These institutional supports can help researchers to: create data management plans to respond to new funder requirements; find secure and reliable storage for data; access tools to help with data analysis and description; deal with issues related to privacy and intellectual property; and find data publishing platforms that permit appropriate credit and citation. In this session, Sarah Huber (Research Computing) and Lisa Goddard (Libraries) will introduce you to an array of data support services that are available to UVic researchers.
Bios:
Dr. Sarah Huber supports UVic researchers in advanced research computing as part of the Research Computing Services group within University Systems. This includes training and guidance in using local and national resources, such as research clusters and clouds offered through the Digital Research Alliance. She joined UVic in 2022 after the completion of a PhD in mathematics (University of Wuppertal, Germany).
Lisa Goddard is a former chair of the Dataverse North Working Group, and a member of the Executive Management Committee for the Digital Research Alliance. She is an Associate University Librarian with responsibility for Advanced Research Services, including Data Services at UVic Libraries. Goddard was PI on a SSHRC-funded Connections Grant entitled, “RDM for Digitally-Curious Humanists”, and was the co-author of UVic’s Research Data Management Strategy.
