Welcome by Glen Darling. Members of the Executive were introduced.

  1. Approval of AgendaMOTION (CaroLyn Schneider/Jane Kovach) That the agenda be approved as amended.       MOTION (Jennifer Margison/Mary O’Rourke) That the annual reports of the President, Secretary and Treasurer be accepted as presented. CARRIED

       

    5. Report on the 1999 General Election (Elections Committee)Bindon Kinghorn reported on behalf of the 1998-99 Elections Committee on the 1999 Chapter Executive election.395 ballots were distributed. 112 were returned, with one spoiled ballot. Votes received: Maggie Cooper Little – 102; Mel Klassen – 56; CaroLyn Schneider – 67; Berenice Wood – 80. Maggie Cooper Little, CaroLyn Schneider and Berenice Wood are declared elected as Directors. Tom Gore is declared President by acclamation.MOTION (Susan Corner/Morag McNeil) That the Elections Committee be thanked, and their report accepted. CARRIEDMOTION (Susan Corner/Faith Collins) That the ballots be destroyed. CARRIED

       

  3. Election of 1999/2000 Elections CommitteeDarling invited the members of the 1998-99 Elections Committee to stand for re-election, and called for additional nominations from the floor.MOTION (Ian Thornton/Maggie Cooper Little) That Kim McGowan, Ludgard De Decker, Norman Thom, Diane Anderson and Bindon Kinghorn be elected by acclamation to the 1999/2000 Elections Committee. CARRIED
  4. Revisions of Chapter By-lawsMOTION (Faith Collins/Mary O’Rourke) That the proposed Chapter By-law revisions proceed to a formal vote as per Article 17 of the current by-laws. CARRIED
  5. Other BusinessBerenice Wood thanked Jane Kovach and Glen Darling for their past service to the PEA, and presented them each with a gift on behalf of the Chapter.
  6. Closing Remarks (Chapter President)Glen Darling thanked the members for their expression of appreciation and for their support. He invited Tom Gore to make closing remarks.Gore asked members to support him as the new Chapter President, and to support the new Executive in their work. He noted that during the last year more than 50 members had served on committees, and acknowledged his appreciation for their involvement. He emphasized the need for continuing support of CUPE in their current contract negotiations, and for encouraging professional staff at SFU to join PEA in the current organizing campaign.
