Research in the Socio-Ecological Landscapes Lab focuses on the impact of climate and anthropogenic changes on plant communities, herbivores and humans in Arctic and Alpine ecosystems. Projects are conducted by undergraduate and graduate students, and research professionals under the guidance of Dr. Noémie Boulanger-Lapointe in the Department of Geography at the University of Victoria. Ongoing projects focus on changes in plant communities in the southwest Coast Mountains, scientific and Indigenous knowledge of berries in the Canadian North as well as plant-animal interactions in Iceland.
At the University of Victoria, the SEL lab stands on the unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, specifically the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples. We acknowledge with respect the historical relationship with and stewardship of these lands that continues to this day.
