About
An Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) research collaboration led by Sinead Earley, Tamara Krawchenko and Kara Shaw in partnership between the University of Victoria and University of Northern British Columbia with support from the Community Energy Association. Over three phases, we are working alongside communities and Nations across northern BC to identify and advance research to respond to place-based interests, needs, and opportunities in support of energy system transformation.
During this first phase of our research, we are supporting community-level conversations across northern BC, designed to amplify the voices of northern, rural, and remote communities and Nations by identifying the unique energy priorities, barriers, and potential pathways for community energy transformation. These conversations are feeding into regional energy dialogues which will facilitate peer learning between communities, build collective regional action, and strengthen community capacity in the north.
As we transition to the second phase of our multi-year research program, Northern Regional Energy Dialogues is actively building partnerships with communities and organizations across the north to advance research in response to identified needs and priorities.
Over the remaining four years of research, Northern Regional Energy Dialogues will support, formalize and embed targeted and community-identified capacity-building initiatives in the region, and inform policies and programs that better support renewable energy development in northern BC.
