Open House and Commemoration of Quebec Mosque Shooting

On January 29th, 2017 there was a mass shooting that occurred at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City, a mosque in the Sante-Foy neighborhood of Quebec City, Canada. Six brothers ere kill and nineteen other brothers and sisters were injured when a gunman opened fire just before 8:00pm.

On January 28th, 2018, the Masjid Al-Iman mosque held an open-house event, inviting dignitaries and the surrounding community to share in our loss, and our vision for the future. It was an amazing event!

The first speaker was Dr. Adel Guitouni, an Associate Professor at UVic presenting on the shooting in Quebec City a year ago – What happened? What were the ramifications?

Imam Ismail of Masjid-Al-Iman presented on the Reality of Islamophobia – Why is it cause?

We also Aboubakar Idriss present, a YouTuber, talking about his projects and the reactions he has received despite the amazing work that he does.

Asiyah Robinson, President of the Muslim Students Association also shared her story – How she became a Muslim, her Islamophobia experience.

In the audience, we also had the Victoria Mayor, Lisa Helps, addressing the open house and commemoration of Quebec City mosque shooting. A show of solidarity.
