For Settlers

This page is dedicated to Settlers living on stolen Indigenous Lands, specifically in the territories that make up Turtle Island (North America), though some of this information has come from other Indigenous peoples, Elders, thinkers, scholars, practitioners, and knowledge keepers trapped in other settler colonies, mostly in Polynesia and the continent now called Australia.

These resources are intended to support settlers – mostly European-descended settlers, but settlers of all lineages as well – through taking the First Steps towards supporting Indigenous Sovereignty on the territories you are occupying (living on). None of these are meant to be definitive, and nothing can replace direct relationships with your host Nations.

If you would like to learn more about who you are displacing, please see Native Land, and/or Whose Land. You might also want to try doing a web search for “NAME OF WHERE YOU LIVE traditional territory.”

Beyond that, please take a look at the resources below (or in the menu that drops down from “For Settlers” above.

  • First Steps for Settlers (a set of resources that can support settlers who are coming to some of this information – and potentially the realities of our being on stolen land – for the first time)
  • Before Going to Ada’itsx (this page was set up to prepare settlers, in a very minor way, before taking up space and (re)producing racist and white supremacist ideas when participating in the Ada’itsx Land Defence/Fairy Creek Blockade)
  • Next Steps for Settlers (this offers some more in-depth workshops, communities, and connections that can support you in making yourself safer when you strengthen your [hopefully at this point] existing relationships with local Indigenous folx).
  • European Decolonization (here are some folx doing decolonization work in Europe – our European ancestors have all been colonized in different waves of occupation, dis-placement, forced conversion, forced industrialization, and others that have led to us being weaponized against Indigenous peoples outside of Europe)
