The Community-Based Health Equity Research group at the University of Victoria is an interdisciplinary collective of faculty researchers, post-doctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in or practice community-based health research.
The basic principle of community-based research is “nothing about us without us“, a term first used by disability activists in the 1990s. It expresses the need for researchers to include community members not only as participants but also as co-creators and co-owners of knowledge.
