YOU’RE NEW TO THE SCHOOL: WHAT IS YOUR PROGRAM?
To ensure we provide the most relevant information, please select the program to which you’ve recently been admitted: Kinesiology or Recreation and Health Education.
Kinesiology is the study of human movement, focusing on how the body moves. It encompasses various aspects, including anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, and motor learning.
Kinesiologists often apply their knowledge in fields like physical therapy, exercise science, sports medicine, and rehabilitation, aiming to improve physical performance, enhance health, and prevent injuries.
The discipline also explores the psychological and social factors that influence movement and physical activity.
The Recreation and Health Education program prepares you to deliver recreation, wellness, and health promotion at a local level through community recreation facilities and programs. It includes activities like sport, aquatics, personal development programs, rehabilitation programs, and government initiatives.
Recreation and health educators support people of all abilities, ages, socio‐economic backgrounds, and ethnicities. They foster change through collaborative programs and policies.
The Recreation and Health Education program can also lead to careers in leadership and administration, or further study in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, coaching, or teaching.
The Recreation and Health Education program shares a common first year with the Physical and Health Education program. The Physical and Health Education program is for people who want to become a secondary school physical education teacher. You can find information about the pathway to becoming a secondary school physical and health education teacher in the Recreation and Health Education program area.
