About Me

Associate Teaching Professor and Chair, Department of Biology

My background lies in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and microbiology. I have been teaching at UVic since 2008. Over the last 18 years I have taught courses in the Biology Department as well as in the Biochemistry and Microbiology Department. In July 2024, I became the first teaching stream Chair in the Faculty of Science at UVic. This has given me an opportunity to lead improvements in undergraduate lab delivery and undergraduate programming in the Department of Biology. While I spend less time in the classroom, I still teach three courses and this is usually the highlight of my day.

In addition to teaching and serving as chair at UVic, I am an editor for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education Journal.

During my time at UVic, I have taught the following courses:

BIOL184 – Evolution and Biodiversity

BIOL225 – Principles of Cell Biology

BIOL360 – Cell Biology

BIOC102 – Biochemistry and Human Health

BIOC299 – Biochemistry for Non-Majors

BIOC300A – General Biochemistry I

BIOC300B – General Biochemistry II

BIOC404 – Proteins

MICR200A – Introductory Microbiology I

MICR200B – Introductory Microbiology II

MICR302 – Molecular Microbiology

MICR408 – Microbial Pathogenesis
