How to get there (and back:)

BY COASTAL FERRY

We plan coordinated travel to the Broken Group islands via coastal ferry on the Frances Barkley from Port Alberni to Bamfield. This will be discussed extensively in class on campus at UVic before departure. However, in short, we will get to the ferry which departs from the Quay in Port Alberni at 8am and arrives mid-day in Bamfield. It only travels down the inlet Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays – the detailed schedule is here but the important thing to note is that the BOAT LEAVES at 8am sharp:) so we will be there earlier than that.

Once in Bamfield, we will pick you up by boat near and travel to our basecamp in the Broken Group with the help of boats from the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre.

For our return journey, we will depart the Broken Group for Bamfield and take up residence at the Marine Sciences Centre. Further details will be provided in class on our return to Victoria.
