“Worker and Union Solidarity with China: Why and How?”

April 26, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On April 26th, please join us for “Worker and Union Solidarity with China: Why and How?” featuring ULCA Labour Centre Director, Kent Wong. This event will have some very interesting discussion, it is not one to be missed!

Canada-China Focus Presents a webinar with Kent Wong, Director, UCLA Labor Center, founding president, Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance.

Description: Solidarity exchanges between trade unions in China, Canada and US were put on hold by COVID. At the same time economic and geo-political conflicts between nations have created new challenges to workers and unions. This webinar explores the value of worker-to-worker relationships despite those conflicts — indeed, made more important in a climate of anti-Asian racism and protectionism. The director of the UCLA Labor Center, Kent Wong has organized more numerous delegations from the US to China and hosted many delegations from China to the United States. He teaches labour and Asian American Studies at UCLA and previously served as staff attorney for the Service Employees International Union. He was the founding president of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance and United Association for Labor Education. He is currently vice president of the California Federation of Teachers.
Moderated by Joey Hartman, past president, Vancouver and District Labour Council and Xinying Hu, SFU Labour Studies.

Sponsored by SFU Morgan Centre for Labour Research, Canada-China Focus: A project of the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute and the Centre for Global Studies, University of Victoria.
