The Ames Lab
Our lab studies how everyday health behaviours—such as physical activity, sleep, and screen time—are linked to mental health challenges like anxiety and depression, especially as young people move from adolescence into early adulthood. We’re particularly interested in how these behaviours affect emotional well-being and how they interact over time.
We follow Canada’s Youth Policy and use youth-engaged research practices, which means we actively involve young people in shaping our research. Their insights help guide what questions we ask, how we collect data, and how we share results—making our work more relevant and meaningful.
In addition to this core focus, we are also committed to research and advocacy efforts that support autistic students in postsecondary education, aiming to improve both academic experiences and overall well-being.
