Draft minutes prepared by Treasurer-designate David Sanderson for approval at the 2015 AGM.

Present: 53 members including the Executive – sufficient for a quorum which, by Article 3 of the Chapter Constitution, is 5% of the membership, currently about 910 members.

3. Chapter Annual Reports:

· Chair’s Report (John Foxgord)

Motion to accept the Chair’s Report – (m) Mike C. (s) Jeremy P. Carried.

· Treasurer’s Report (Vincent Connor)

Motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report – (m) Audrey A. (s) Sandra G.. Carried.

· Association Executive Report (Melissa Doyle)

Motion to accept the Association Executive Report – (m) Rachel G. (s) Joy A. Carried.

· Labour Relations Officer Report (Melissa Moroz)

Motion to accept the Labour Relations Officer Report – (m) Ricardo D. (s) Matt G. Carried.

· Committee Reports:

· Elections Committee Report (Sean Rumsby)

By-Election1 (For Brendan Leddy)

· End of December 2014, Brendan Leddy left the University

· Election was held in mid->end of January

· Chris Clause elected via acclamation

By-Election 2 (For Abhinav Rai)

· Abhinav left March 18th

· Ori Granot elected via acclamation on March 27th

General Election

· In the odd year we had 4 positions up for election

o John Foxgord’s position as Chairperson

o 3 director position: Sheryl Karras and the newly elected Chris Clausen and Ori Granot

· On Oct.12, all 4 positions were filled via acclamation

o Sheryl Karras take over as Chairperson

o Chris Clausen continues his position as director

o Ori Granot continues his position as director

o Mike Cave becomes our newest director

· Association/University Committee Report (John Foxgord)

Motion to accept the Association/University Committee Report – (m) Rachel G. (s) Katherine B. Carried

· Local Representatives Committee Report (Sheryl Karras)

Motion to accept the Local Representatives Committee Report – (m) Sandra G. (s) Audrey A.. Carried

Discussion: It was noted that the following buildings need Local Reps: Cunningham, Ian Stewart and Sedgewick.

4. Election of the 2015/2016 Elections Committee (5 members)

From the members attending this AGM, five volunteered to be on the Elections Committee:

David Wang, Rachel Goldsworthy, Sean Rumsby, Chris Purse and Katy Chan.

The Elections Committee works independently of the Executive to organize and report on Elections for Chapter positions within the terms of Article 11 of the Chapter Constitution:

5. Other Business:

Matt Greeno makes a motion:

‘Whereas anthropogenic climate change contributes to social, economic, and environmental calamity; and

Whereas the extraction and burning of fossil fuels is a primary cause of anthropogenic climate change; and

Whereas divestment is a necessary tool in the creation of a portfolio aligned with international objectives to limit global warming to 2 degrees centigrade

Be it resolved that the UVic PEA executive write a public statement endorsing Divest UVic efforts; and

Be it resolved that the UVic PEA executive request a report by the PEA Ways and Means Committee regarding on the exposure of the PEA’s investment portfolio to companies that produce fossil fuels‘

Seconded by Rachel G.

As the question is stated by John Foxgord it is noted by Brendan D. that this is actually 2 motions.

Motion 1: Be it resolved that the UVic PEA executive write a public statement endorsing Divest UVic efforts –(m) Murray W. (s) Sandra G

Motion 2: Be it resolved that the UVic PEA executive request a report by the PEA Ways and Means Committee regarding on the exposure of the PEA to fossil fuels equities – (m) Ricardo D. (s) Brendan D.

Both Questions are stated and debated and the John F. puts the question to adopt the motions.

Motion 1 is adopted

Motion 2 is adopted
