Draft minutes prepared by Executive Treasurer Vincent J. Connor for approval at the 2015 AGM.

 

Present:  47 members including the Executive – sufficient for a quorum which, by Article 3 of the Chapter Constitution, is 5% of the membership,  currently about 940 members.

 

  1. Motion to approve agenda – (m) Rachel Goldsworthy (s) Chris Purse.

 

  1. Motion to approve minutes of the 14 November 2013 AGM. (m) Matt Greeno (s) Chris Clausen. Carried.

 

  1. Chapter Annual Reports:

 

  • Chair’s Report (John Foxgord)

 

Motion to accept the Chair’s Report – (m) Matt Greeno (s) Jill Tate.  Carried.

 

  • Treasurer’s Report (Vincent Connor)

 

Motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report – (m) Cheryl  Sivertson  (s) Matt Greeno.  Carried.

 

  • Association Executive Report (Melissa Doyle)

 

Motion to accept the Association Executive Report – (m) Chris Clausen  (s) Matt Greeno.  Carried.

 

  • Labour Relations Officer Report (Melissa Moroz)

 

Motion to accept the Labour Relations Officer Report – (m) Rachel Goldsworthy  (s) Katy Chan.  Carried.

 

  • Committee Reports:

 

  • Elections Committee Report (Chris Clausen)

Since there was only one candidate for the Vice- Chair of the Chapter Executive,  Melissa Doyle was elected by acclamation for a 2-year term starting on 14 November 2014, after the AGM, until the AGM in 2016.

Similarly, because there were only two candidates for the two vacant Director positions on the Chapter Executive, David Sanderson and Kristen Ficke were elected by acclamation for 2-year terms starting on 14 November 2014, after the AGM, until the AGM in 2016.

Also, because there was only one nomination for the remaining 1-year term of the vacant Director position on the Chapter Executive caused by the resignation of Chandra Beaveridge, Brendan Leddy was elected by acclamation for the 1-year term starting on 14 November 2014, after the AGM, until the AGM in 2015.

 

The Chair thanked the Elections Committee for their help with the election.

  • Association/University Committee Report (John Foxgord)

Motion to accept the Association/University Committee Report – (m) Chris Clausen  (s) Bert Klatt.  Carried

 

  • Local Representatives Committee Report (Sheryl Karras)

Motion to accept the Local Representatives Committee Report – (m)  Jill Tate  (s) Brenda Gerth.    Carried

Discussion:  It was noted that the following buildings need Local Reps:  Cunningham, Ian Stewart and Sedgewick.

 

  • Seminar Committee Report (Sheryl Karras)

Motion to accept the Seminars Committee Report – (m) Jill Tate  (s) Matt Greeno.    Carried

 

 

  1. Bargaining Committee and the recently completed round of bargaining

The Bargaining Committee has stepped down following the successful completion of its work in mid-2014. The new 5-year Collective Agreement runs from 01 July 2014 to 30 June 2019 and may be seen at the Association web site http://pea.org by using the link on the home page at: ‘ Access Your Collective Agreement’  and  then navigating to the link for the UVic agreement.  A limited number of paper copies will be made available in due course and will be distributed upon request.

 

  1. Election of the 2014/2015 Elections Committee (5 members)

From the members attending this AGM, five volunteered to be on the Elections Committee:

Chris Clausen,  Rachel Goldsworthy,  Sean Rumsby,  Chris Purse and Katy Chan.

The Elections Committee works independently of the Executive to organize and report on Elections for Chapter positions within the terms of Article 11 of the Chapter Constitution:

  1. Other Business:

Rachel Goldsworthy reported that the Ad Hoc Divestment Group had drafted a letter for signature by Chapter members requesting that the Pension Trustees and the University Foundation look into divesting from companies that produce fossil fuels.  Members are advised to look out for notices of upcoming meetings on-campus to discuss this important topic.
