Travel & Accommodations

NOWCAM 2024 is hosted by the University of Victoria in the charming city of Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.  For thousands of years this was home to the Lekwungen peoples, the  Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ, thriving Indigenous cultures.  UVic is committed to supporting Indigenous resurgence and fostering respectful, mutually beneficial interactions.

All of the conference activities will take place in the Bob Wright Building on the UVic campus. Unfortunately, there are no dorm rooms available at the time of the conference. The campus is a 25-min bus ride from downtown. You may find an AirBNB or such in the neighbourhood of the UVic campus, but note that the area is mostly residential. The least expensive motels are on Gorge but they are not very nice and it’s a longer walk to downtown than it looks. Quality Inn Downtown Inner Harbour is a good bet.

By ferry

  • BC Ferries: Pedestrian and vehicle transport via ferry from Vancouver (Tsawwassen terminal) to Swartz Bay terminal in Victoria.
  • Coho Ferry: Another option is the Pedestrian and vehicle ferry from Port Angeles, Washington, USA, to downtown Victoria.
  • Clipper: Pedestrian-only ferry operating from downtown Seattle to downtown Victoria.
