VALUES AND PRACTICES

our practices flow from our values

Stsielhstuhw tu mukw stem (‘i ‘u tuna tumhw)
(
Respect for all things; Respect for all beings, Respect for what is around you)

Our values are to…

  • Work in a good way in the spirit of reconciliation
  • Invite all community members, including the land and water
  • Aim to follow the calls to action to natural scientists working towards reconciliation in Canada
  • Be positive, curious and solution-oriented
  • Follow the First Nations principles of ownership, control, access and possession (OCAP) that assert that First Nations have control over data collection processes and that they own and control how this information can be used
  • Share data openly wherever possible, following data standards that meet the principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability (FAIR)

These values guide our practices…

We share what we have done and continue to do here as a way of being transparent and to be an example for other projects in the future. We developed our research approach, proposal, and all projects in collaboration with all partners as described in this Memorandum of Understanding and FLNRORD Letter of Support which importantly clarifies data ownership, stewardship, and licenses.
