For this project, I worked with Corey Burger and Adam Krupper from Capital Bike. This is a cycling advocacy group that has contributed heavily to the design and implementation of Victoria’s AAA bike lane system. Part of their aim is to make cycling in this city more accessible to everyone.
I look at the bike lane system here through an equity lens in order to determine who in the city lacks access to bike lanes or does not feel as though the bike lanes are there for them. I will be taking a look at what programs exist to help people gain access to bikes and bike infrastructure in Victoria, as well as what might be done to improve them. Things other cities are doing that could work in Victoria are being covered by other students in my class.
