Schneider Electric Workshop

In our workshop with Schneider Electric, participants attended numerous lectures which introduced them to concepts such as agile development and its role in product design, 3D Modeling with Fusion 360, basics of GitHub and open source firmware, and much more! Our participants were then able to apply everything they learned to assemble, solder, and test their own keypads with help from Schneider Electric.

At the end of the workshop, all participants presented their completed keypads during a site visit at the Schneider Electric office – they were also able to network with industry professionals, and show off everything that they learned!

FortisBC 2025

The FortisBC x WEST 2025 Project was a highly successful initiative that took place during the Spring 2025 semester, bringing together 28 women+ students from a range of engineering and project management disciplines. Over the course of the semester, participants collaborated in interdisciplinary teams—mechanical, civil, electrical, coding, and project management—to design an addition to FortisBC’s biogas compressor system.

Students worked on every stage of the design process, including selecting a suitable compressor, designing the foundation, determining power and wiring requirements, and developing the control logic. Weekly Wednesday meetings fostered teamwork, technical growth, and leadership development.

The project not only provided students with valuable hands-on industry experience but also strengthened resumes, expanded professional networks, and gave participants the chance to make a meaningful impact in the field of sustainable energy. Feedback from both students and FortisBC highlighted the project’s success in combining technical innovation with collaboration, and the refundable deposit system helped ensure commitment and accountability throughout.
